Another fantastic book I have completed this week. This book explains some of the most vital reasons behind Amazon’s success. Bar raiser interviews, long-term thinking, hard-learned leadership principles, single-threaded teams, narrative over slide shows, and perhaps most importantly, Amazon’s thirst for innovation and acceptance of failure as a way to learn and move forward. One of the things that struck me most is how they switched over to narratives from slides....

Yesterday, I completed one more book, “High-Output Management by Andy Grove”. What a fantastic read. It reminded me of the complexities of the work I do every single day as an engineering manager. While changing companies, I wanted to look at the number of tasks I completed last year; it is 2348. It does NOT include regular meetings like backlog grooming, one-on-ones, etc., and the work I track with email. It represents how much extra mile I went to support my teams....

I have recently finished the following books, and they took their place in my influential books list. The insights in these books change your perceptions and conceptions forever. Interestingly they complete each other, as well. One tells you to act first before in-depth introspection as the name suggests “Act like a leader…” first, and the other explains what reasons could prevent your significant change towards a new you. The real stories in the Immunity to Change book resonate with you as we are not so different from one another at our underlying worries, which fortify our immunity to change....
